Create a Mirror (RAID1) without deleting data on a source disk

This question has been answered by DELL-Stefan R

I have a PowerEdge R910 and H200 RAID Controller.

The System Disk is a single 146GB SAS disk connected to the H200.

I want wo create a mirror (RAID 1) adding a second disk (i still have one) WITHOUT deleting data on the source disk.

How can I do this ?

  • Hi Robert,

I have a very short answer for you - this is not possible without loosing data.

Actually there is no RAID information stored on the hard drive so it is not possible to migrate it to a RAID0 oder RAID1.

Solution would be to use 3rd party software to backup/clone the existing drive then create the RAID1 ... initialise the virtual disk and put the OS back on it.

    Cheers,
    Stefan
